#WHRDAlert COLOMBIA / Assailants kill María del Pilar Hurtado, defender of the right to decent housing

On Friday, June 21, the Colombian rights defender, María del Pilar Hurtado was shot and killed in Tierralta, Córdoba. She had received threats due to her work in defense of the right to adequate housing.

According to information provided by INDEPAZ, at least 702 social leaders and human rights defenders have been killed in Colombia between January 1, 2016 and May 20, 2019.

We of IM-Defensoras repudiate this brutal murder, express our solidarity with the family and persons related to María del Pilar Hurtado, and demand that the Colombian government take all necessary measures to guarantee the safety and integrity of social leaders and human rights defenders.
