From Abril 4th to 6th, the Fifth National Meeting of Women Human Rights Defenders was held in El Salvador. The Meeing was convened by the Salvadoran Women Defenders Network with the participation of women defenders representing the diverse territorial networks in the country (Eastern, Western, Cuscatlán and Metropolitan).
Activities were oriented towards analyzing the context in which the labor of women defenders is carried out, the impact this has on their work, and the way in which they confront difficulties in order to continue to defend human rights. Several different workshops were held in order to strengthen capacities, with an eye to opening spaces for sharing experiences from different territories.
As the comrades in the Network said: "It was a great experience. Without a doubt, the territorial networks of women human rights defenders are building hope in defense of human rights in El Salvador." The companions also spoke of the invaluable contributions and crucial input of Ana Paula Hernández and Sally O´Neill, who were killed in a traffic accident in Guatemala.
