On March 18, the Salvadoran Network of Women Defenders issued a statement about the crisis generated by COVID-19, expressing urgency and the need to practice both self-care and collective care. It stressed the need to stay vigilant with regards to the actions of State institutions in the fields of health and human rights.

Moreover, the Network exhorted the State to adopt strategies, not limited to individual actions, to mitigate damages; to adopt economic measures in support of persons who earn their living in informal commerce; to be responsible in spreading information through channels that reach the public as a whole, thereby avoiding the spread of collective panic; and to attend to shortages in the water supply in certain areas of the country, among other demands.

The Network has also produced and distributed a series of communicative materials to inform and raise public consciousness about health care practices and solidarity in the crisis situation.
