The report “TRAnSCENDING HATRED AND SYNDEMICS. Transfemicides of women defenders and the struggle for justice in Mesoamerica between 2020 and 2022”, explains the alarming risk context that trans women defenders face in Mesoamerica:
From 2020 to today, at least 21 trans women defenders have been victims of transfemicides in this region.
Policies imposed by governments, with the excuse of fighting the COVID19 syndemics, together with pre-existing structural dynamics of discrimination and LGBTTTIQ+ exclusion, have seriously affected life and security conditions of these women defenders.
The report also reveals some historical achievements in the pursuit for justice and the fight against impunity concerning transphobic violences. This has been possible thanks to the work of women defenders and LGBTTTIQ+ organizations. They are transcending hate.
